Stowe Boyd Interview

Tuesday, October 4, 2005 by Rick Short [Rick Short]

Stowe Boyd is an icon in the blogging world. He is the President of Corante and the editor of Get Real.

Stowe describes himself as follows:

Stowe Boyd, President/COO of Corante, is a well-known media subversive, and an internationally recognized authority on real-time, collaborative and social technologies. His personal blog is A Working Model

This description gives us a view into the value that Stowe can bring to any discussion of Marcom, especially in the B2B arena.

We recently shared speaking duties at an American Marketing Association seminar on blogging. The audience really appreciated Stowe's insight and expertise.

Stowe is one of the most intellectual people I have ever met. I appreciate his vision into the counterintuitive fear that marketeers have for blogging.

Love the work you're doing with business vlogs. Great interview with Stowe...who is for sure on of the most intellectual people I've ever met too!

Nice to see, but if this is all I'm going to get from an interview with such an interesting person then I may as well go back to the episode of For Immediate Release I was listening to. The best thing about podcasting is the time flexability (though FIR is sometimes too long at 90 minutes). Will the same not be true for vlogging?

Marshall, Thanks for commenting. I, too, would have loved much more from someone as plugged-in and insightful as Stowe. I grabbed him in the small time slot between lunch and the afternoon speaking session of the AMA event. I simply didn't give Stowe much time. On top of that, I sprang the interview on him - no warning. He was great about it - and shared the time he had. I agree with you 100% - CONTENT!!! If it is not interesting and valuable, then why bother? Vlogging is new to me, and I am trying to develop my skills. I hope to improve and really do appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Rick PS: I am actually struggling with the "60 Minutes Effect". People are very cautious when someone introduces themself and asks for a video interview. Then, further "weirdening" the situation, the interviewer pulls out a playing-card-sized camera and runs the whole affair themselves - at the end of their own arm. It sure doesn't look like a professional affair, and the interviewee is often cautious about having their words misused by some potentially unscrupulous interviewer. Frankly, who can blame a persom for being on guard? We've all seen what people can do with digital media. I am toying with the creation of a special introductory piece of literature to help calm the nerves.

Rick, This interview is dead on. I too suffered from the "Blog-o-fear." I'm over it now though, because of some excellent encouragement from you and Toby and the whole blog gang in Atlanta. You missed some excellent cocktails and conversation by the way, at the Wonk. Elizabeth and I have created an internal blog (yippee) to get the corner offices on the blog-wagon. So, of course, we had to visit Indium's website to observe best practices. Take care.

You two are going to knock the blog right out of the park. Your energy, enthusiasm, and spirit were so evident at the American Marketing blogging seminar in Atlanta. I can't wait to see what you do next. Please keep me posted - I am really interested to see what two bright and motivated professionals can do.
