The Infamous Cell Phone

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 by Jim Hisert [Jim Hisert]

Unquestionably one of the largest technology drivers in the last decade, the cell phone continues to challenge our industry by never being quite good enough to leave well enough alone. My two cents: why not include a small LED flashlight? It could be used for finding your way in the dark and it might be able to double as a flash for that digital camera we have integrated into the modern cell phone.

Thanks mate! I wonder why it didn’t catch on with other models?

That is one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time!!! I use my cell as a flashlight all the time, but its HARD to find my way across my bedroom in the middle of the night with just the glow from the tiny screen.

A lot of camera phones have LEDs built in for flash already. I have the luck (or curse?) of having a Windows Mobile based phone, where I can get a program to turn on the flash. It is also possible to do from the camera application. Bright enough to walk around in a dark room at night! So get yourself an up to date phone and hack away ;)

Now there are many models of mobile phones with the features you mentioned. Maybe you can find some in here:http://www.telecomleads.org/mobile-phones/
