Was this HAST study published, or was it an internal Indium Corp. study? Could you link to it?
Do I understand correctly that to prevent corrosion of indium in its alloys, if I apply a coating that is a hermetic seal against halide compounds, the coating does not have to prevent water vapor penetration?

The HAST study was an internal Indium Corp. study, however it was verified by an independant customer as well. I will e-mail you the Indium Corporation data.
Pure indium can be compressed to form a hermetic seal. This seal will keep out oxygen as well as water vapor. The only risk to this hermetic seal is through corrosion of the indium by a strong chemical from the exterior of the seal. If you seal the indium hermetic seal with something impenetrable by halides, you would likely protect the indium and have a very reliable, long-lasting hermetic seal.
